The Indian Sugar Mills Affiliation (ISMA) on January 3 stated that sugar manufacturing (after considering sugar diverted for ethanol) from October 1 to December 31, 2022 was 120.7 lakh tonnes as in opposition to 116.4 lakh tonnes for a similar interval in 2021.

The variety of factories in operation now can be larger at 509 as in opposition to 500 for this era final sugar season. Extra variety of factories are functioning primarily in Maharashtra (196) and Karnataka (73) this season.

With 509 sugar mills in operation, sugar manufacturing is up by 4 lakh tonnes throughout the present season in comparison with final sugar season (October 1, 2021 to September 30, 2022).
